One of many reasons why I love SMBC
I definitely understand where teachers are coming from - there are so many parents who try to pull bullshit like this - but having been a “gifted” student who was bullied by my teachers to the point of not being allowed to read real books, I guess I have a problem with how often we see this side of the argument, and how often “fairness” is used as an excuse for classroom leveling, when it’s actually stifling genius, and in some cases, encouraging depressive tendencies.
That is an enormous run-on. But I hope you understand. If my parents hadn’t fought to get me moved up to a grade where I wouldn’t be bored to tears (literally, you guys. Every day.) I honestly don’t know where I’d be today.
I recognize that my case is not the norm, and that this comic highlights a very real concern for teachers, but I just want people to be aware that the “shitty kid being defended by blinkered parent” is not always the only way to see these debates.
